Windows 10 Migration
6,500 devices. 10,000 users. 277 packaged and fully documented applications. Successfully delivered within 3 months.
Cloudfish were engaged to migrate 6500 pieces of hardware to Windows 10, whilst replenishing and repurposing old equipment. The estate comprised of circa 10,000 users and a VMWare Horizon/vSphere virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
We faced many challenges, such as the aggressive timescales, the geographic spread of the Trust over 4 sites, an unrationalised and largely unmanaged application portfolio, manual and undocumented installations, increased home-working due to Covid-19 and also the criticality of healthcare service availability in general.
As part of the solution, Cloudfish integrated and fully tested 20 pieces of hardware with Windows 10. We performed site audits and created automated solutions to identify specific hardware locations. We rationalised a list of over 1,000 applications down to 277 based on usage metrics and business criticality. From this rationalised list we identified the core business applications and thoroughly tested each of them on the target operating system.
We developed a Power BI dashboard to combine data from multiple sources (LanSweeper, App-V Reporting, SCCM, Active Directory, ManageEngine and more) and implement a smooth rollout plan. We implemented a VDI environment, set up clinics for end-user support and device swap-outs, implemented a monthly patching process with automated deployment rules (ADR) and much more.
The output of this project provided the NHS Trust with a managed and fully-documented application portfolio, a managed and tested hardware estate, 6,500 Windows 10 devices and an optimised VDI environment with virtualised clinical applications.
Cloudfish implemented one of the fastest and most successful Windows 10 migrations in healthcare.
